Principal's Message

Welcome to another week of the school year! Our momentum continues to build, and seeing our students and staff bring so much energy and focus to campus every day is wonderful.

PTSA Spirit Week & Joining the Team
Get ready for an incredible week ahead; it is PTSA Spirit Week! We can't wait to see our students and staff show off their school pride and creativity throughout the week. If you haven't already, please consider officially joining our PTSA. Becoming a member is a quick way to support student activities, show teacher appreciation, and stay involved in the events that make our school community thrive.

Progress Reports Coming September 17th
Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 17th, when our first progress reports of the school year will be released. Please take time to log into your Skyward Family Portal with your student to review their grades, check assignment completion, and celebrate their progress so far.

Important Student Supervision & Drop-Off/Pick-Up Policy
Student safety is our highest priority. Please remember that campus supervision is strictly available 30 minutes before school starts to 30 minutes after school ends. Families are required to drop off and pick up students within this timeframe.

To assist families who need care outside of these hours, we partner with the YMCA directly on campus:
  • Morning YMCA Program: Available before school supervision begins for a small fee.
  • After-School YMCA Program: Free on-site care for students after dismissal until 6:00pm.
If you need support signing up or finding the registration forms, please contact our main office and we will happily point you in the right direction.

Thank you for your unwavering support, encouragement, and commitment to our school family. It is a true privilege to partner with you every day, and we are looking forward to a fantastic, spirit-filled week together!

Together we work, and together we grow.

Go Jets!

Start with Hello Week

Start with "Hello"!

We’re excited to kick off Start with Hello Week a nationwide kindness initiative inspired by the mission of Sandy Hook Promise, which is an organization dedicated to creating safer, more connected school communities.

Each themed day gives our students a simple, meaningful way to practice empathy, inclusion, and positive connection. Every small action helps build a culture where everyone feels seen and supported. As part of this commitment, we’ll also be hosting a Hygiene Drive.
A colorful flyer outlines daily themes for Start with Hello Week, running from September 21st to the 25th.

Hygiene Drive

Donate Hygiene Items

We’re coming together to support our community through our Hygiene Drive! By donating essential hygiene items, we’re showing care, compassion, and responsibility for one another.  Drop-off boxes are located in the Front Office, Media Center, and 601 & 701.

Resiliency Day

Resiliency Day - Walk a Mile in Someone Else's Shoes

Hey Legacy Jets & Families,

Empathy means recognizing, understanding, and valuing what someone else may be feeling or experiencing. We’re showing empathy by wearing unique or mismatched shoes as a reminder to “walk a mile in someone else’s shoes” and practice kindness through perspective‑taking. Students will also be on a modified bell schedule that still adheres to regular school hours.

Library Corner

The Library is Open! 📚

The library is now open before school and during lunch for students to enjoy. ELA classes have begun visiting the media center for library orientation lessons, and these visits will continue over the next two weeks.

The library will not be open on testing days.

The library is a great place to:
  • Read and relax
  • Check out books
  • Complete homework or classwork
  • Play games with friends
  • Explore new books and resources

To help keep our library a welcoming space for everyone, please remember:
  • No food or drinks are allowed.
  • Walk at all times while in the library.
  • Be respectful of the space, materials, and other students.
  • Clean up after yourself before you leave.

Students may check out up to three books at a time as long as they do not have any overdue books or outstanding fines on their account. Please see the Legacy Middle School Policies and Procedures for more detailed information.

We look forward to seeing you in the library and helping you discover your next great read! 📖✨

Overdue Books and Fines

As students visit the library with their ELA classes, Ms. Haynes is notifying them of any overdue books on their accounts. To view the titles of books currently checked out, any overdue items, and the exact replacement cost, students can follow these steps:
  • Log in to LaunchPad.
  • Open the Library Research Tools folder.
  • Select Follett Destiny.
  • Click My Stuff on the left-hand side of the screen.

Students who have overdue books checked out from Legacy Middle School have two options:
  • Return the book to the library.
  • Pay the replacement fee through School Cash.

If the overdue book belongs to a school other than Legacy Middle School, you will need to contact that school directly for information about paying the fee through their School Cash system. However, books from other OCPS schools may be returned to the Legacy Media Center, and we will ensure they are sent back to the appropriate school.

Thank you for helping us keep our library collection available for all students!

2026-2027 SSYRA List

If you enjoy reading and a little friendly competition, consider joining our Battle of the Books team this year! We would love to have a team represent our school. If you're interested, please let Ms. Haynes know. More information will be shared in October. 📚🏆

  • Log in to the Launchpad window with your regular OCPS username and password

School Advisory Council (SAC)

Hello Legacy SAC Community

Thank you for your interest in Legacy Middle School’s School Advisory Council (SAC) for the 2026–27 school year. Our first SAC meeting of the year will be held on Tuesday, September 15, at 6:00 PM at Legacy Middle School Cafeteria.

For those new to SAC, the School Advisory Council is a group made up of parents, teachers, school staff, community members, and the principal who work together to support the school and help guide its priorities.

Some of SAC’s primary responsibilities include:
  • Reviewing school performance data and helping identify areas of focus for the school
  • Assisting with the development, implementation, and evaluation of the School Improvement Plan
  • Providing input on school goals, priorities, and initiatives
  • Reviewing and providing input regarding certain school improvement funds and resources
  • Creating an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to provide input and participate in discussions affecting Legacy Middle School
Our meetings generally focus on updates from school leadership, discussion of the School Improvement Plan and school data, consideration of items requiring SAC input or approval, and discussion of topics important to the Legacy community.

SAC Voting Membership for 2026–27
As we prepare for the new school year, we are beginning the process of establishing SAC voting membership for 2026–27.

If you are interested in serving as a voting member of SAC this year, please complete the registration of interest form below by Tuesday, September 1:

Current SAC voting members who would like to continue serving should also complete the form so we can confirm your interest for the upcoming year.

After the registration period closes, candidate information will be compiled and a ballot will be distributed to the Legacy parent/guardian community. Parents and guardians will vote to elect the parent/guardian representatives who will serve as voting members of SAC. Once elected, SAC members will participate in meetings and vote on matters that come before the council.

SAC Election Timeline
  • Tuesday, September 1: Registration of Interest closes
  • Wednesday, September 2: Parent/guardian election ballot distributed
  • Tuesday, September 8: Voting closes

Whether you choose to serve as a voting member or simply attend meetings, SAC meetings are open to the public, and we welcome participation from the entire Legacy community.

Thank you to everyone who has served on SAC in the past and to those interested in getting involved this year. I’m looking forward to working with Principal Lauren Smith and all of you as we begin another year supporting Legacy Middle School.

See you on September 15!
