The Esports & Finance Scholastic Academy is the first of its kind in Orange County Public Schools at the middle school level and in Florida! This innovative program is designed to immerse students in cutting-edge technologies while promoting college and career readiness. Students will build essential life skills, financial literacy, money management and personal development.
Legacy Engineering Courses
Instructor - Mr. Freeman
Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) 8th Grade
IED exposes students to some of the major concepts that they will encounter in a college level engineering design course of study. Students have an opportunity to:
- Design a consumer product using an engineering design process based on a design brief
- Create and/or modify 3D solid computer models and assemblies of complex parts using Autodesk Inventor
- Earn Autodesk Certification and real college credit honored at most Florida public colleges and universities
Magic of Electrons (ME) 7th Grade
ME challenges students to examine the behavior and parts of atoms, as well as the impact of electricity on the world around them. Students have an opportunity to:
- Learn skills in basic circuitry design, including electrical schematics
- Assemble and solder electrical components
- Use magnet wire to build and test electrical motors, telegraphs, and speakers
Flight and Space (FS) 7th Grade
FS challenges students to explore the science behind aeronautics and aerospace. Students have tan opportunity to:
- Explore the history and achievements of aerospace engineering
- Design, build, and test tetrahedral kites, balsa wood gliders, and water rockets
Science and Technology (ST) 6th Grade
Science impacts the technology of yesterday, today, and the future. In this unit, students apply the concepts of physics, chemistry, and nanotechnology to activities and projects, including making ice cream, cleaning up an oil spill, and discovering the properties of nano-materials.
Medical Detectives (MD) 6th Grade
Students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they collect and analyze medical data to diagnose disease. They solve medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs, measure and interpret vital signs, dissect a sheep brain, investigate disease outbreaks, and extract, test, and analyze real DNA.
