Principal's Message

Last week, we completed the FAST ELA and Math assessments, and our students truly excelled! We are extremely impressed with how seriously they approached the tests and how effectively they demonstrated the knowledge and skills they’ve gained this year.

Due to a cybersecurity threat in Canvas last Thursday, we are adjusting our testing schedule for this week and next. Please find the tentative schedules below. If anything changes, we will communicate with you all via Parent Square.

You may have received a text message stating that Canvas has been restored, but OCPS is proceeding cautiously after the cybersecurity incident. IT is reviewing data through Monday. If cleared, systems will begin restoring Wednesday, May 13th, with full access expected by end of day Friday, May 15th. We will be monitoring this situation very carefully and may need to make adjustments to the modified testing calendar found below.

Students will participate in additional testing, including CFEs, Science, and Civics. as applicable to their courses. We want all students to remain focused and confidently demonstrate what they know.
Our teachers are supporting students every step of the way, and encouragement from home makes a tremendous difference.

Please make arrangements for your child to arrive on time and remain for the entire school day during any scheduled testing. I cannot emphasize enough how important full-day attendance is during the testing window.

Thank you for all you do to support our students and school community. Let’s finish the year strong together!

Student Highlight

Artists of the Year!

A Message from Mr. De Zayas:
Every year, I choose an artist of the year in my 8th grade class. In my nine years here at Legacy, I have never had two winners. This year was so hard to choose only one. I had many students that could have won it, so I went with two amazing artists. I never choose the winner based on talent. I choose based on their dedication, effort, participation, never having a missed assignment, good behavior, and how they following directions. Makayla and Khoi are amazing examples of this and they are definitely deserving of this award.

Project Impact

Spotlighting the impact of our teachers

Project Impact letters are written by graduating seniors and distributed to teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week.

On Friday, Board Member Gallo stopped by to present Mr. de Zayas with a letter from a graduating senior. The letter was thoughtful and reflected the impact the Mr. de Zayas had on the students during his time at Legacy,

We don’t always know the impact we have on the students that enter our classrooms until years later.
