Principal's Message

Greetings, Jets.

Legacy Middle School has been nominated for the Orlando Sentinel’s Central Florida Favorites! Please support our school by voting. Simply scan the QR code, select Education, then Middle School, and choose Legacy Middle School.

We also encourage all families to complete the OCPS Family Stakeholder Survey. Both links can be found below. Thank you for your continued support!

Next week, we are thrilled to showcase our talented students in the theater presentation of Disney’s Descendants: The Musical. Our cast and crew have been working incredibly hard, and we can’t wait for our school community to enjoy their performances. We hope to see many of you there cheering them on!

Academically, we are entering the final stretch. With two more weeks until the last round of testing, this is our final push to review, stay focused, and help students feel confident and prepared to show what they know. Our teachers are guiding students every step of the way, and encouragement from home makes a big difference.

Thank you for all you do to support our students and school community. Let’s finish the year strong together!

Free Heart Screening for Students

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death in sports and on school campuses – more than any form of cancer, concussion, or illness combined. Thousands of seemingly healthy kids die every year due to detectable heart conditions.

That’s why Legacy Middle School is thrilled to announce that we’ve partnered with Who We Play For to provide every middle and high school student the opportunity to get their heart checked with an electrocardiogram (ECG). The FREE heart screening will take place on Wednesday, April 29th from 4 - 6 pm at Legacy Middle School.

Every parent or guardian can register their student for a FREE screening online here or by scanning the QR code in the flyer above.

Why take advantage of this FREE electrocardiogram (ECG) heart screening?
  • Thousands of kids die annually from an undetected heart condition that puts them at risk for Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Many of these kids could’ve been saved with a simple ECG. The biggest misconception about SCA is that it won’t happen to your student. Don’t take a chance with your child’s heart.
  • The standard physical is statistically proven to be less than 4% effective at detecting any heart conditions; adding an ECG significantly improves those odds. An ECG is ~95% effective at detecting Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, which has been regarded as the most common cause of sudden cardiac death in young people.
  • ECG screening is non-invasive, painless, and takes about 5 minutes or less. Watch our quick pre-screening video with your child to learn how simple the process is and hear parent testimonials advocating for ECGs.
  • Each ECG is interpreted by a board-certified pediatric cardiologist, and results are returned via email within 10 business days of the screening.
  • An ECG typically costs around $150.

What is Who We Play For (WWPF)?
WWPF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to eliminate preventable Sudden Cardiac Death in the Young. WWPF represents every young person who lost their life due to a detectable heart condition missed in their physical. At hundreds of schools across the country, WWPF has screened 400,000+ students and saved the lives of 400+ students, all of whom had previously undetected life-threatening heart conditions.

Poetry Month Activities

This week, Orange County Public Library liaisons led engaging poetry sessions with all 7th and 8th grade ELA classes in the Media Center. Students explored poetry in a creative, hands‑on way, producing thoughtful and artistic pieces.

The liaisons will return on the 28th to work with our 6th grade classes as well. We are proud to showcase the creativity and imagination of our talented students!

Let's make reading a daily habit! 📖

The Let's Read OCPS Reading Challenge is running until April 30! Legacy Middle School has set a reading goal of 190,300 minutes for the Let's Read OCPS Reading Challenge! So far, we have over 15,000 minutes logged by our students and staff.

Help us reach the goal by logging your minutes in Beanstack each time you read. Remember, 10 minutes of daily reading can help build that habit and take you on a journey! 📚 #OCPSReads @ocps_official

Adobe's April Creative Challenge

April’s Adobe Creative Challenge for Let’s Read, OCPS! is to create a book cover for a book you’re logging minutes for in Beanstack! This final challenge will run through April 30th, when the reading challenge is over.

Log those Minutes!

We’re so close to reaching Pathfinder status! We just need a few more participants to log their first set of minutes in Beanstack to hit our 75% goal
