Greetings, Jets.
Congratulations to our boys and girls basketball teams on their victory over Wedgefield last week! What an exciting and strong start to the season.
As we reach the midpoint of the school year, we are reviewing our testing data to identify which students and subject areas may need additional support to ensure success on end-of-year exams. Parents, please check your child's school Gmail account for an email containing their individual data for the school year so far.
Be sure to check out this edition of Jets in Action for information about upcoming activities and events happening here at Legacy, and take note of the important dates listed below.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death on school campuses – more than any form of cancer, concussion, or illness combined. Thousands of seemingly healthy kids die every year due to detectable heart conditions.
That’s why Who We Play For is thrilled to announce that we’ve partnered with UCF Lake Nona Hospital to provide our youth the opportunity to get their heart checked with a FREE electrocardiogram (ECG). The community heart screening will take place on 2/7/2026 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the UCF Lake Nona Hospital, Community Youth Heart Screening Event, 6700 Lake Nona Blvd, Orlando, FL 32827.
Every student aged 10 to 25 can sign up for a screening here.
Why take advantage of this electrocardiogram (ECG) heart screening?
- The standard physical is statistically proven to be less than 4% effective at detecting any heart conditions, adding
- an ECG improves those odds to 80-95%.
-
ECG screening saves lives.
- ECG screening is non-invasive, painless, and takes about 5 minutes.
- Each ECG will be interpreted by a pediatric cardiologist or cardiologist specifically trained for the heart of an
- athlete. Results will be returned via email within one week of the screening.
- An ECG typically costs around $150.
WWPF represents every young person who lost their life due to a detectable heart condition missed in their physical.
At hundreds of schools across the country, WWPF has screened 400,000+ students and saved the lives of 400+ students, all who had previously undetected life-threatening heart conditions.
Watch this video to understand more about what to expect at a heart screening.

We are excited to announce our upcoming Beautification Day on February 21st from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and we’re inviting our entire school community to join us! We need the support of parents, students, families, and community members to help beautify our campus and make it a cleaner, brighter place for everyone.
Volunteers will assist with a variety of projects, including spreading mulch, planting flowers and plants, and helping to clean up the campus. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a positive impact, earn service hours, and show pride in our school.
We are also inviting all of our student clubs and organizations to participate—this is a great team‑building activity and a chance to give back.
We hope to see you there as we work together to make our school shine!

Dear Future Sponsor,
Education is the foundation of our community’s future, but that foundation is only as strong as the teachers we prepare today. At OCASA, we are on a mission to ensure that the next generation of educators has the support they need to succeed.
This year, we have set an ambitious and historic goal for the OCASA Scholarship Scramble: To fund one $1,000 scholarship for a graduating senior at every single one of the 23 Orange County Public School (OCPS) high schools.
To reach this $23,000 goal, we are looking for community partners who believe in the power of local education. By sponsoring this event, you aren't just putting your brand in front of local professionals—you are directly investing in the future of 23 students who will one day lead our classrooms.
We have established several "Academic Tiers" of sponsorship to help us reach this target:
-
The Valedictorian (Event Sponsor) – $5,000: Funds 5 full scholarships. Includes naming rights for the event and Awards Luncheon, plus premier marketing placement, and a player foursome in the scramble.
-
The Magna Cum Laude (Driving Range) – $2,000: Funds 2 full scholarships. Includes exclusive signage at the Driving Range, name on all marketing, and a player foursome in the scramble.
-
The Honor Society (Hole + Foursome) – $1,500: Funds 1.5 scholarships. Includes a player foursome and a custom Tee Box sign.
-
The Dean’s List (Hole Sponsor) – $1,000: Funds 1 full scholarship. Provides high-visibility signage at a designated hole.
-
Teaching Assistant – $250: A vital contribution toward a partial scholarship for a deserving student.
Whether you join us on the course as a golfer or support us as a sponsor, your contribution ensures that 23 future teachers—one from every high school in the OCPS —start their journey with the support of their community behind them.
Will you help us reach our goal of 23 scholarships for 23 schools?
Thank you for your commitment to our students and the future of Orange County Public Schools.
Sincerely,
Nathan Hay
OCASA Scholarship Scramble Committee

Congratulations to Noah Jones, Olivia Ho, Nathaniel Ricke, and Angelina Vu for being selected for and participating in this year's OCPS All-County Concert Band Festival! These students auditioned against students from every middle school in the county back in November and were selected for this prestigious honor band. Congrats again to our fantastic Jet musicians!

Thank you to everyone who participated in Literacy Week! On Tuesday, Ms. Haynes hosted a book tasting event for some of our avid readers. On Thursday, the Orange County Public Library joined us to lead a writing lab for several ELA classes. Throughout the week, students also enjoyed a variety of literacy activities in the library. A couple of our teachers even joined in on the fun by decorating their doors using a literary theme.
We are proud of the talented artists here at Legacy, as showcased in our bookmark contest. All bookmarks will be laminated, and our top three winners will receive a prize.

Our school is excited to be part of the Let's Read, OCPS! reading challenge to read 50 million minutes across the district! This challenge runs until April 30. Our school goal is 190,300 minutes, and so far, our students have logged about 500 minutes!
Don’t have a book already? Check out an eBook or audiobook on Sora, through LaunchPad! We can reach our goal by logging as little as 10 minutes every day! ALL reading and every minute counts!

Parents, please fill out this form to indicate whether or not you approve of your child attending, participating in, and experiencing any activities Legacy Middle School plans for our students' entertainment, experience, and learning opportunities both during and after school through the end of the school year. If you would like your child to opt out of any upcoming events or activities, please indicate which activities in the last question of this form.
