Greetings, Jets!
It's that time of the year where we ask for your feedback. These surveys are aimed to support us in navigating our school on a course heading that you, our community, finds agreeable. Please take a moment and click this link to share your thoughts.
Each year during our 8th grade Leave Your Legacy event, we ask families to share their thoughts on their experience with us. While I can't highlight every comment here, I wanted to share two thoughtful messages that we received:
I am incredibly grateful for the outstanding
improvements at Legacy MS since Principal
Jimenez took the helm. The dedication and
commitment to excellence are evident in
every aspect of the school. The teachers are
exceptional, providing a supportive and
engaging learning environment that has
significantly contributed to my children's
academic growth. My kids' grades have
improved remarkably, and they genuinely
enjoy attending school each day. Thank you
to the entire staff for your hard work and
unwavering support. Your efforts are truly
making a difference in our children's lives!
The Casiano Family :)
The best middle school ever. When Mister
Jiménez arrived at the school the change
was incredible. All the teaches are amazing.
Thanks always for the great support and
provide the bests 3 year for all my kids. - M.C.
Last week, students in Science, Civics, Algebra, and Geometry completed their PMA assessments. Students that reached proficiency will be rewarded with ice cream at the end of the week, 10/10, the last day of the marking period. Report cards be available on Skyward on October 23rd.
Please take a moment to complete the Parental Consent Form so your child can participate in school wide events throughout the year. One exciting opportunity coming up is Teach-In this November, where students will gain valuable insights from our incredible guest presenters. We want every student to benefit from these enriching experiences!
OCPS notified us that phishing emails have recently been sent to students. Please remind your child to be cautious of messages that ask for personal information in exchange for money or job opportunities—they are likely scams. For tips on how to recognize phishing emails, please see the information below.
We’re grateful for your continued support and involvement. Your partnership plays a vital role in helping our students grow with confidence, reach their potential, and shine every day!
Have a great week!

Fall Family Stakeholder Survey |
Here are some tips to spot a Phishing Email:
🎣 Phishing? Think “Fishy!”
How to spot the bait:
-
Too good to be true? $550/week for part-time work with no experience? 🐟 That’s bait.
-
Weird sender? If the email comes from an unknown or odd address — don’t bite.
-
Click pressure? “Apply now!” or “Urgent!” 🚨 That’s a red flag.
-
Strange links? Hover before clicking — if it looks sketchy, skip it.
-
Spelling slip-ups or vague details? Real opportunities don’t look sloppy.
🛡️ What to do if you’re unsure?
- Don’t click anything.
- Show a teacher, TSR, staff member or administrator.
- Report it to the school.

Parents, please fill out this form to indicate whether or not you approve of your child attending, participating in, and experiencing any activities Legacy Middle School plans for our students' entertainment, experience, and learning opportunities both during and after school through the end of the school year. If you would like your child to opt out of any upcoming events or activities, please indicate which activities in the last question of this form.
Per Florida Rule 6A-10.089, we are required to obtain parental consent regarding all school-sponsored events and activities.
Some of our upcoming events and activities include, but are not limited to:
- Honor Roll Assemblies
- Teach-In, November
- Prism, December
- Author Visits
We know that our community appreciates efficiency. That's why we're providing you with one form for the rest of this school year to consolidate and streamline parental consent forms like we did last year. This will benefit you so you will not be inundated with multiple requests.
The OCPS Parental Consent for Student Participation in School-Sponsored Events, Activities, and Student Clubs can be found in the link here: General Parent Consent Form

Grace Baptiste, Adalyn Krausmann, Graham Klein conducted one of our favorite lab activities in Earth Space Science, roasting marshmallows! Students are learning about the three methods of heat transfer: conduction, convection and radiation.
|
Madison Hawkins, Amariah Portalatin and Aimee Adams enjoy learning about the most efficient ways to roast marshmallows. |
Congratulations to our Boys Soccer Team for making it to the playoffs and for being the Co-Cluster Champions of the Year!

Last Friday, students gathered for an exciting Teen Night hosted by Mid Florida Credit Union, where fun met financial literacy. The evening was packed with games, food, and hands-on learning experiences designed to empower teens with money management skills.
One of the highlights? Several students opened their very first checking accounts and received debit cards—marking a major milestone in their financial journey. When asked how they felt, Iggy shared that he “felt powerful,” while others described feeling more responsible and grown-up.
The consensus was clear: everyone had a great time and walked away with valuable knowledge and a sense of independence. Teen Night proved that learning about finances doesn’t have to be boring—it can be fun, engaging, and life-changing.

Students from Ms. Zayas-Vargas’ Reading class, Ms. Nieves’ Drama class, and Ms. Haynes’ Journalism class recently participated in a dynamic Poetry Workshop led by Orlando’s Poet Laureate, Shawn Welcome. This inspiring experience encouraged creativity and self-expression across all groups.
The workshop culminated in a special field trip on Friday, September 26, to the Celebrating Hispanic Voices performance at the Dr. Phillips Center. Legacy was honored to be one of only three middle schools invited to attend.
Students had the opportunity to meet Ada Luz Pla—star of the Netflix coming-of-age series On My Block!—who performed at the event and visited with students to share insights from her journey in the performing arts.
Adding to the excitement, three of our students, Jonna Lewis, Mia Moncada, and Luna Ramos had the opportunity to share their voices by reading original poems live on stage. If you would like to watch their performance, click on the links below.

📚 Empowering Student Readers and Researchers!
Last week, Ms. Haynes kicked off a series of engaging visits to ELA classrooms, introducing students to the powerful digital resources available in the Library Research Tools Folder on Launchpad. These tools are designed to support both academic research and recreational reading:
- 🔍 Florida Electronic Library (FEL/Gale): A trusted source for research and reference materials
- 📖 Follett Destiny: Explore our school library catalog and dive into eBooks and audiobooks
- 🎧 Sora: Access a wide selection of eBooks, audiobooks, and digital magazines
- 📈 Beanstack: Track reading minutes and build healthy reading habits
✨ Reading Rewards! To spark even more excitement around reading, we’re launching a monthly incentive program. Students who log their reading minutes in Beanstack will be eligible for fun rewards and recognition. It’s a great way to celebrate literacy and encourage a lifelong love of books—one page at a time!
So far, we've logged over 20,000 minutes toward our 100,000-minute goal—let’s keep the momentum going!

E-Scooters and E-Bikes have become a common mode of transportation for many students across Orange County. With this increase in use, OCPS has seen a rise in accidents involving students traveling to and from school on these devices.
If your students ride an E-Scooter or E-Bike to school, please take time to review safety procedures with them and ensure they understand the rules and regulations that apply. Safe riding practices help protect not only your student but also others on the road and sidewalks.
Attached are helpful resources, including:
Safety Reminders for Families:
• Helmets are strongly encouraged (and required by law for riders under 16).
• Riders should obey all traffic signals and posted signs.
• Riders should dismount their E-Scooter or E-Bike before crossing a crosswalk.
• E-Scooters and E-Bikes must follow the same rules as bicycles on the road.
• Devices should not be operated on school campuses unless specifically permitted.
• Students should never ride with multiple passengers unless the device is designed for it.
• Night riding requires lights and reflective gear for visibility.
If you have questions, please reach out to the Office of Occupational Safety and Health at OfficeofSafety@ocps.net

Reminder: State-Mandated Cell Phone Policy All cell phones must be silenced and stored out of sight—either in a backpack or purse—for the entire school day, from 9:25 AM to 4:04 PM. This rule is set by the state and applies to everyone on campus..
|
|
Any student on campus before 9:00 AM or staying after school for activities such as clubs, performing arts, sports, or other events must be signed into the YMCA program.
-
Morning Program: Begins at 7:00 AM and includes a small fee.
-
After School Zone: Free for all participants and offers homework support, snacks, meals, and a variety of engaging activities each day.
Attendance is flexible—students are not required to attend daily and can participate according to your family's schedule and preferences.
