Welcome to the Library!

📚 Library Adventures Begin in ELA!
Last week, our ELA classes began their visits to the school library with an engaging orientation session and the chance to check out new books. In addition to physical books, students can dive into digital reading through the Sora app, accessible via Launchpad.

To make reading even more exciting, we’re launching a monthly incentive program! Students who log their reading minutes in the Beanstack app will be eligible for special rewards. Let’s celebrate the joy of reading—one page at a time!

Mornings in the Library

Students may visit the library in the morning before school starts, beginning at 9:00 am.

📖 Discover Digital Reading with Sora

Students can now enjoy a vast library of eBooks—including graphic novels and magazines—through the Sora app, conveniently available on Launchpad. These digital titles are accessible anytime, anywhere, on any device, making reading more flexible and fun than ever!

📘 Track Reading Progress with Beanstack

Students can stay motivated and organized with Beanstack, a Launchpad app designed to enhance their reading journey. With Beanstack, they can log their reading minutes, join exciting challenges, and keep a running list of all the books they explore throughout the school year. It’s a fun and interactive way to build strong reading habits!

SSYRA Books 2025-2026

🌞 What Is the Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA)?
Each year, Florida Media Specialists carefully select the Sunshine State Young Readers Award Book List to help spark a love of reading in students across the state. These books are chosen not only for their literary quality and engaging stories, but also for their variety—ranging across genres, cultures, and curriculum connections.

The goal? To encourage children to read for pleasure and build strong reading fluency in the process. Whether your child is into mysteries, graphic novels, or heartfelt tales, there’s something on the SSYRA list to capture their imagination.

Leigh Rucktenwald - President

Hello, My name is Leigh Rucktenwald. I am thrilled to be your PTSA president for the 2025-2026 school year. I have been involved in PTA/PTSA for about 5 years and served as a board member at the elementary, middle school and county level. I have even had the pleasure of representing the PTA in Washington D.C. by meeting with a House Representative. I am passionate about inclusion, literacy, and citizenship. Working in before and after care at a local elementary school I have the ability to help provide a safe environment to support working families. I have a 6th grader and an 8th grader here at Legacy and look forward to a fantastic 2025-2026 school year.

Carrie Balthazar - 1st Vice President

Carrie Balthazar is a mother to 3 amazing kids, currently in 2nd, 6th, and 10th grades. This is her second child that has attended Legacy and she previously served on the School Advisory Council and the PTSA Executive Board here. She also sits on the PTA Executive Board at a local elementary school and the School Advisory Council at a local high school.

As a pediatric nurse practitioner, helping children is Carrie's true passion. Volunteering is where her heart is and she believes there is no community more deserving of our time than our children. Carrie hopes to bring more family engagement events to Legacy to support building friendships between students and their families as well as providing support and resources for our legacy staffulty.

Olga Campos - Recording Secretary

Hello My name is Olga Campos and I'm excited to be joining PTSA this year. While this is my first time serving in a PTA role, I bring strong organizational and communication skills from my career as an Operations Manager, where I coordinate many moving pieces on a daily basis. I'm confident these skills serve me well as the Recording Secretary. I am also a proud parent of a 6th grader at Legacy and we both look forward to an amazing school year together!

Stacey Conrad - Treasurer

Hello, my name is Stacey Conrad, and I am excited to be serving on the PTSA this year! I am the parent of a 6th grader here at Legacy. I’m passionate about building strong connections between families, teachers, and students. My background is within the education system for over 15 years as an educator serving many different roles and now a private provider in schools. I enjoy using those skills to help support our school community. I believe that when parents, teachers, and students work together, we create an environment where every child can thrive.

Delayed dismissal 30/30

Patience is key during delayed dismissal

The weather can be very unpredictable the first few months of the school year. Cloudy skies and rain is not a signal of a delayed dismissal. We will only call a delayed dismissal should our dismissal procedures be impacted by lightning in our area. Families, please realize that our student and staff safety is our top priority. We understand that the weather is an inconvenience; however, we all choose to live in the lightning capital of the world. Please do not double park or impede another family from entering or exiting campus. Should you need to arrive on campus to pick up your child during a delayed dismissal, please follow the schematic below. You'll enter through the car loop doors, sign your child out in the cafeteria, and exit out on the east side of the cafeteria. Thank you.

30-30 Rule for Inclement Weather

The 30-30 Rule

For our families new to Legacy, at dismissal and no sooner, please note that during times of inclement weather, we follow the nationally recognized '30/30 Rule'. If thunder is heard within 30 seconds of a lightning strike, students will not be dismissed until 30 minutes have passed from the last sound of thunder. Parents may arrive on campus to sign out their child.
